The Area

 

An hour from Siena and from Grosseto and two hours from Florence and Rome, also locally there options are many :

-The numerous spas, all reachable in less than 45 minutes (San Filippo, San Casciano, Petriolo, Saturnia, Bagno Vignoni, Chianciano Terme)

-Mount Amiata (15 minutes) with its marvelous beech forest, a true natural cathedral, green in summer and red in autumn, equipped with ski facilities for the winter season

-Val D'orcia with its wide views, recognized as Unesco heritage.

-Last but not least the sea: the sunny beaches of Castiglione della Peschaia and Cala Violina are about an hour away, not to mention the huge Maremma Natural Park with his 9800 ha and wild beaches, also visitable by bike.

The rich countryside offers a variety of quality products: 'the well known Olivastra Seggianese DOP olive oil, the  Montecucco DOC wine, the renowned chestnuts, mushrooms and truffles of Amiata and the Percorino cheese from Seggiano.

Twenty-five mins away lies the suggestive village of Montalcino, home of the renowned wine “Brunello”. In the nearby towns of Castel Del Piano, Arcidosso and Santa Fiora there are many festivals and other special activities organized during the summer.

For lovers of art and spirituality :

3 km away is another UNESCO site, the  Daniel Spoerri Garden, a fascinating itinerary among sculptures and modern art

15 minutes away we find the splendid Abbey of Sant 'Antimo known for its songs Gregorians of his monks

at 20 minutes there is Merigar, site of the Dzogchen Community, the center of Tibetan Buddhism, which organizes courses and retreats of teaching and practice attracting people from all over the world every year.
